Guinness extraction: the largest amethyst in the world!

To this day, it remains the largest amethyst ever extracted in Uruguay: 15 whole tons of top-quality raw material worth several hundred thousand dollars. Twenty days of work were needed to extract it without using explosives, employing hammer, wooden wedges, and soft iron, and where possible, small pneumatic hammers. The quartz brought to light surely opened the heart of the mine’s owner, Mr. Riani, whose mine is located in La Soberana in the Catalan area, near Artigas, a town of 30,000 souls with streets named after Giuseppe Garibaldi and Dante Alighieri. It is not known where the magnificent specimen ended up, but it is assumed it has already been cut after the customary ritual photographs.     Over three meters tall and weighing two and a half tons, the size is certainly impressive, but it is the sheer beauty that takes the breath away of those who see it for the first time. This is the world’s largest Amethyst Geode – The Empress of Uruguay – but the tens of thousands of perfect amethyst crystals, Deep Purple, that nature has naturally formed inside truly astonish all who see it.
