Guide on which finger to wear the ring on

Did you know that for every type of ring, there is a proper finger on which to wear it, with a specific meaning to associate with it? We are not just talking about solitaires, wedding bands, and engagement rings, but also about jewels that can be gifted to us by parents and friends... or simply by ourselves! Every ring, if worn on the right finger, will become even more precious. Today we will discover together the meaning a ring can have for each finger!

Right or left?

Let’s start with the hands. According to ancient beliefs, the left hand is more closely linked to feelings, intuition, art, and emotions. Its closeness to the heart makes it the ideal hand for all those precious jewels that remind us of a person or a situation we hold dear. The right hand, on the other hand, is seen as a symbol of manual skill, material creativity, rationality, and logic. So, rings to be worn as accessories are welcome for those who love to show them off.

Thumb

The strongest and sturdiest finger of the hand, a true symbol of power. Wearing a ring on it shows self-confidence but also a strong desire for dominance. It also represents parents. From another perspective, perhaps more feminine, wearing a ring on the thumb can symbolize a memory of youth, liveliness, and freshness: a true symbol of vanity and readiness to flirt.

Forefinger

The forefinger, reminding us of the symbol of direction, indicates determination and zeal, passion for one’s ideals, and the desire to achieve all one’s goals. It also symbolizes a sharp mind and great dedication, always combined with good sense and intuition. It represents brotherly relationships, with friends, brothers, and sisters.

Middle finger

The middle finger indicates great responsibility: wearing a ring on it reveals balance, intelligence, and calmness, but also the ability to empathize with others’ lives. A beautiful positive meaning, linked to good sense. It represents the relationship with oneself.

Ring finger

According to an ancient Egyptian legend, the ring finger is said to be directly connected to the heart through a small artery. The ring finger is therefore the finger connected to love, deepest affection, harmony, and family. Obviously, it represents the relationship with the beloved person, and it is precisely on the ring finger that we should wear engagement rings, wedding bands, or slim bands.

Little finger

We cannot forget the little finger: although such a small finger, it holds great importance in symbolism. It represents generosity, courage, and passion, but also great vanity, as it was the favourite finger of nobles to show off their jewels. It also represents the bond with children.

Which rings to choose?

Choosing a ring to give or to gift oneself is always difficult. Now that we know the meanings of our hands and fingers, we can be a bit more certain. My advice for purchases this time concerns design brands such as Marco Bicego, UnoDe50, and Damiani. Luxury jewels, but with a playful and not too serious touch, which can be perfect to best represent our personality (or that of our loved ones!). In short: perfect rings for a gift, to show off on every occasion... perhaps on the finger that enhances them the most. And as for engagement rings, slim bands, and wedding bands... we will talk about them soon! Keep following us so you don’t miss any of our guides!
