“There are certain gifts that, if given by a father to a son, take on a whole different meaning. My dad, a big man of nearly eighty years, still finds the time and energy to think of me. Once, much more value was placed on objects; they were repaired, nothing was thrown away. He raised me a bit with this philosophy and even now that I am grown and wise, it does me good to be reminded of these things. For this Christmas, he gave me a pre-owned Rolex, refurbished and like new, but with great value. It is identical, in fact, to the watch my mother gave him in the early 2000s. It was a stroke of luck to find it after so many years. Now we wear the same watch on our wrists, original, working now as it did then, to remind us that value has no age but grows with time. Much like the affection between a father and son, which changes but grows year by year.”
