BASELWORLD 2018 | TAG Heuer presents the new Monaco Gulf

It happens 50 years after the birth of the blue and orange stripes of Gulf Racing.

At the Baselworld fair, TAG Heuer presents the new TAG Heuer Monaco. The Special Edition is the Gulf.

TAG Heuer, a Swiss company in the watchmaking sector, particularly known for its luxury watches and chronographs. The brand owes part of its fame to its involvement in the world of motor racing, mainly Formula 1, where it has been the official supplier of timing systems for numerous seasons, as well as having provided financial support first to Williams, then to McLaren, and since 2016 to Red Bull. From 1983 to 1987 it lent its name to the Porsche engines used by McLaren. The same thing has been repeated since 2016 with the Renault engines of Red Bull, after ending the thirty-year partnership with McLaren. Since 2017 it has been a partner and timekeeper of the cycling races organized by RCS, including the Giro d'Italia.

TAG Heuer and Gulf: a historic partnership for a legendary timepiece that changed the face of the watchmaking industry. In 1969 the TAG Heuer Monaco – equipped with the world’s first automatic chronograph, the Calibre 11 – revolutionized both the technique and the look of watchmaking thanks to its square case.

The timepiece entered history thanks to the film Le Mans 24 Hours in which Steve McQueen, behind the wheel of his Porsche 917 in Gulf colours, wore a TAG Heuer Monaco 1133B Calibre 11 on his wrist.

Revisited in this special edition, its iconic blue sunburst dial sports the typical blue and orange stripes of Gulf. A perforated blue calfskin strap with orange stitching completes the racing design of the timepiece. It is inspired by the "King of cool" and his famous blue and orange sports car.

The Gulf Special Edition, presented at Baselworld, draws on the origins of the watchmaking house celebrating its rich motor racing tradition. A way to perpetuate a legendary alliance through a timepiece as bold as it is timeless, just like the Monaco Gulf.
