From Ferro Jewels comes "Santos" by Cartier

A new arrival from Ferro Gioielli for lovers of luxury timepieces: Cartier rightfully joins the ranks of the most beloved brands, along with its historic Santos collection.

But let’s discover a little more together…

House of Cartier

When a timepiece brand can claim to be timeless, it knows it has done an excellent job. Cartier is among these: a name and a guarantee that spans centuries without losing the slightest bit of charm.

Cartier International SNC, or simply Cartier, was born as a jewellery maker in Paris in 1847 and, since then, has ranked among the most prestigious jewellery makers in the world. It boasts a long history of sales to the royals of Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, Russia, and beyond.

Initially focused solely on jewellery, in the early 1900s it began producing timepieces appreciated for their design and technology. The first was the Santos...

The Santos

Created in 1904, the Santos watch is based on the concept of form: a taste for the essential, the strictness of proportions, and the search for details.

It is Cartier’s first wristwatch, created in honour of the Brazilian aviator Santos-Dumont. The pilot’s request was simple and clear: to be able to read the time even while flying. Before, it was impossible because there were practically only pocket watch models, which were difficult to consult while piloting an aircraft.

A challenge against gravity

A challenge to conquer the sky and leave gravity on the ground: Cartier certainly won it, bringing to the present day a timepiece with character, inspired by the revolutionaries who changed the world, with a pioneering spirit and thirst for freedom.

The Santos had an unusual geometric shape, rectangular with rounded corners. The bezel screws were visible and, initially, this discouraged Cartier from marketing this watch model. It was only in 1911 that Louis Cartier changed his mind, after seeing an opening in the watch market towards wristwatch models. He then marketed the first Santos, which remains a symbol of the company and is still offered in a modern version today.

The 2022 ambassador

Just a few weeks ago, the House of Cartier also announced a new ambassador. It is the Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal, famous for his leading role in ‘Brokeback Mountain’ and as the villain Mysterio in the beloved Spiderman films starring Tom Holland.

In short: a highly respected ambassador, who makes the Santos a classic timepiece, yet always in step with current fashions.
