Ferro Gioielli Design’s Platinum
The beginning of the adventure
Fabrizio told me that Ferro Gioielli discovered and introduced platinum pt950 for the first time from the mid-1990s, with production related to the fashion of the period.
In those years, the experts at Ferro Gioielli made accessories with a very futuristic design, with parts in polished platinum and parts in sandblasted finish. These were very important collections that had great success on the market, which at that time was mainly divided between the choice of white gold and yellow gold.
Platinum closely matches Fabrizio and the experts’ idea of pure metal: it is a metal that has a natural original colour, unlike white gold which does not exist in nature. Moreover, platinum allows the sparkle and brightness of diamonds to shine forth.
With the arrival of the new century, Ferro Design created the jewel of 2000, a limited edition product counting only 20 pieces, designed specifically to celebrate the start of a new era.
A few years of pause...
For many years after, the offering of platinum jewellery was suspended. The choice of the goldsmiths and jewellers was wise; platinum, in fact, did not fully satisfy the experts at Ferro Gioielli. Although it is a long-lasting and durable metal, platinum proved to be not very hard in terms of mechanics. In short: it did not withstand well the small knocks that every piece of jewellery, if worn, undergoes daily in its life cycle.
A new life for platinum
About 12 years have passed since Ferro Design chose to set platinum aside. Yet, despite the distance from this unique metal, Ferro Gioielli has not strayed far. In fact, together with the company Arata, led by Fabrizio’s great friend Aldo, the Ferro family has bet on platinum and, with a patent developed with the Polytechnic University of Milan, Arata found a perfect formula to harden platinum. Today platinum is the purest, longest-lasting, and most usable metal of all. Even more than gold.
Christmas 2020: a jewel full of magic
Platinum, with its ethereal white colour, resistant and little prone to wear, has therefore returned to be the perfect inspiration for creating new jewels. Ferro Design and Arata have indeed brought this metal back into the spotlight with a first collection, aimed at the woman who wishes to wear a jewel with ease in her daily life. A necklace with a single shining stone was designed, to be paired with an earring and a ring. It is a young and ready-to-wear collection made entirely of platinum and natural white diamonds: a true spectacle, perfect for every day but able to give that extra touch that makes the difference.
