From October 16 to 18, 2020, TAG Heuer Carrera returned to the track as “Timekeeper” at the Targa Florio, one of the oldest classic regularity car races. And it was Carrera, in 2020, that marked the 160th anniversary of the Swiss Maison, with a modern style but a charm from another era. The roads of Sicily were thus filled with beautiful 1970s racing cars, branded TAG Heuer.
The competition
Targa Florio is promoted by Automobile Club d’Italia with Automobile Club Palermo, supported by ACI Sport and ACI Storico. Among the most important stages are Marsala, the Salt Pans, Castellammare del Golfo, and Valderice... and then up to Palermo, to continue on the winding roads of the Madonie, amidst the wild and sunny nature of Sicily!
Among the legendary drivers of this all-Italian race, we cannot fail to remember Tazio Nuvolari, Jean-Manuel Fangio, and Jo Siffert, the legendary “tutor” of Steve McQueen during the filming of the iconic “Le Mans 24 Hours.” The car that has won the most victories at Targa Florio? Porsche!
Special 160° Carrera
This year, which as I told you marks the 160th anniversary of TAG Heuer’s founding, the Swiss Maison has chosen to reinterpret the historic Carrera, offering it in four versions. Two with steel bracelets and black or blue dials, and two others with alligator leather straps, one with a silver dial and one with an anthracite dial.
The case, for all models, measures 42 mm and is made of steel, with new lugs and finishes, new pushers, and a metal crown that helps give an extremely elegant touch to this sports chronograph. A functional and lightweight design, which allows extraordinary readability even at the high speeds of race car drivers! Inside, the Calibre Heuer 02 automatic, entirely made in the manufacture of the parent company.
