5 curiosities about jewels
Every now and then we wonder what the most curious or strange characteristics of the objects we use daily are. Where does the idea for that accessory come from? Who wore that necklace? Today I am here to offer you 5 curiosities about jewelry!
Very ancient jewelry
The oldest piece of jewelry ever found dates back 75,000 years. It consists of pearls made from very ancient shells. The first jewelry, as old as humanity itself, was indeed created from materials used in everyday life, such as shells. The oldest jewelry in the world comes from South Africa, a shell necklace. The ornament is made with 41 marine pearls, pierced to be strung on a thread of material not yet identifiable. The discovery is extraordinary because the necklace would have been produced 30,000 years before the artistic works found so far. In short, homo sapiens sapiens would have started much earlier than previously believed to engage in making items not related to daily necessities.

Lucy
For the second of the 5 curiosities about jewelry, let's fly into space! Among the stars, there is said to be a diamond the size of the Moon, our satellite. The diamond was named "Lucy," in honor of the Beatles' song, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." The diameter of the giant diamond is 4000 km!

Moulin Rouge
The Australian designer (of Italian origins!) Stefano Canturi created a necklace worth one million dollars for the film Moulin Rouge. The necklace, made of platinum and more than 1300 diamonds, is the most expensive piece of jewelry ever made for a film. Nicole Kidman, the film's star, wears it in all its charm!

Ancient China
In ancient China, silver was preferred over gold. Moreover, jade was adored, a precious stone considered a bearer of beauty and strength. The sumptuous jewelry was often made of silver, gems, and blue kingfisher feathers.

Cocktail
The so-called "cocktail ring" is a piece of jewelry born in the 1920s, during the period of American Prohibition. Illegal venues, located in the basements of buildings, allowed access to only a few women: sumptuous and large rings signaled that the women wearing them could afford the illegal drinks.
