Ferro Jewels: story of a family

Walking under the arcades of Giacomo Matteotti Street means stopping to admire the shop windows of Ferro Jewels. Precious diamonds, sparkling earrings, and splendid watches—it is inevitable to think about the origin of what is today Ferro Jewels: the story of a family.

Our story

1954 - The beginning of the story

Ferro Jewels was born in 1954, during the boom that struck post-war Italy. The watchmaker Nereo Ferro, whom the family affectionately calls Grandpa Nereo today, opened a workshop for watch and goldsmith repairs in Este, a small town in the province of Padua. Always by his side was his wife Italia, known to everyone as Lia. Initially, Ferro’s shop was dedicated solely to repairs.

Great care from the very beginning was given to repairs on high-end and luxury mechanical watches.

The 1960s

In the 1960s came the first turning point, which would make the historic family workshop a solid and important reality. Nereo Ferro became a dealer for brands such as Longines, Tavannes, Wyler Vetta, and many other jewellery and watchmaking products.

The 1970s

It was not until 1975 that another step forward was taken, which would bring Ferro Jewels to become the reality it is today. The shop expanded to the sale not only of luxury brands and large companies but also of unbranded goldsmith items: a small but great step to lay the cornerstone of a great family enterprise.

The 1980s

Amid rock music and flashy clothes, Fabrizio Ferro, son of Nereo, officially joined the shop at just 20 years old, after gaining years of experience in the most prestigious goldsmith workshops of Valenza, in Piedmont. Valenza is known as a true world capital of jewellery. A real testing ground for Fabrizio, who, as always, amazes us with his experience and skill!

In those years, Fabrizio explored the world of jewellery, attending fairs of worldwide importance and forging relationships that still endure today, making Ferro Jewels a lively and well-known reality. During the fairs, Fabrizio purchased precious stones and natural pearls of every kind to bring back to the shop and transform into jewellery.

The birth of the workshop

In 1985, the Ferro Jewels workshop was officially established at the back of the shop, where Nereo and Fabrizio repaired and created goldsmith and jewellery pieces.

From 1988, Ferro Jewels began working as a buyer with brands of the calibre of Damiani, Marco Bicego, Tag Heuer, Breitling, Longines, Bulova, Seiko, Miluna, Salvini, and many, many others. I am sure these names are not new to you: even today, Ferro Jewels collaborates with these very important luxury brands!

The 1990s

In 1995, thanks to the ever-forward-thinking spirit of Nereo and Fabrizio, the goldsmith workshop came to life. No longer just repairs and resale: the Ferro Jewels family transformed into a true brand, with an elegant and refined style. It was the dawn of Ferro Jewels Design, which still enchants and wins over customers today, thanks to the skilled and knowledgeable staff producing jewellery of the highest quality!

Also in the 1990s, at the dawn of the web era, the Ferro family did not fail to amaze us. The Ferro Jewels website was born, one of the first to be created in the town. A further symbol of the family’s ability to ride the wave of modern times.

The 2000s

The year 2000 brought a breath of fresh air and a new century: in 2006, Fabrizio specialised in gemmology, obtaining the qualification of Gemmologist accredited by IGI. Precious stones, pearls, and diamonds... Now you understand why we like them so much! Discovering all their mysteries is very interesting, and relying on an expert eye when choosing a jewel to gift is essential.

In these years, the buying and selling of luxury watches and second-hand Rolex also began, now more appreciated than ever.

By 2010, web technology was in full expansion, and the Ferro family knew how to ride the wave of modernity. Always on the ball, as the saying goes, they decided to renew themselves online and create the e-commerce site www.ferrogioielli.com, giving their customers the possibility to shop online as well.

A year later, the restyling of the shop on Matteotti Street turned the ancient family workshop into a modern and fashionable space, where elegance, luxury, and professionalism come together under the Tiffany blue colour of the family brand. I still keep some memories of the old shop (which was already beautiful!), but the new style is truly wonderful.

In 2012, Fabrizio was accredited by the Chamber of Commerce of Padua as an Expert and Appraiser and later became a Technical Consultant at the Rovigo Court. Meanwhile, the website expanded towards international markets, becoming available in two languages. I told you our Fabrizio is always on the ball!

Since 2017, this blog has also been open, thanks to the idea and contribution of Gianmarco Ferro, son of Fabrizio, to involve all jewellery enthusiasts in what lies behind their favourite gems and the ever-evolving watch world, providing useful advice and informing about all the news.

And the rest of the family?

In the shop, we find Mrs Emanuela, wife of Fabrizio, who guides the most loyal customers towards choosing the ideal jewel. With her are also the sons Gianluca, Gianmarco, and Giulio, precious collaborators in the family shop. In 2019, the eldest son Gianluca Ferro also specialised in gemmology, becoming a fully accredited Gemmologist by IGI.

Three generations of expert and skilled figures, attentive to the customer, professionalism, and continuous updating. For over 65 years, Ferro Jewels has written the history of Este, becoming a fundamental point of reference for all those seeking elegant, unique, refined jewels, also made to measure! All while always keeping up with the times.
