Jewels: 5 mistakes to avoid
Whether it is a gift for a loved one, a more special purchase, or everyday life, it is important not to make some very simple mistakes to avoid ruining our bijoux! Let’s discover together the 5 mistakes to avoid!
1. Gifts: pay attention to the recipient’s style!
It may seem obvious, but it is not! When you are about to give a gift, focus on the style and tastes of the person who will receive it! Of course, your opinion is important, but a jewel that is too showy given to a person with a discreet style can turn out to be an unwelcome gift. Are you in doubt? If you are not 100% sure of the recipient’s tastes, aim for jewels with neutral and simple shapes and colours, but above all choose a precious metal such as gold or silver. Quality will make up even for the wrong style!
2. If you are not experts, ask for advice!
Do not be afraid to turn to your trusted jeweller! Ask for advice and opinions, inform yourself, be curious! At Ferro Gioielli you will always find expert jewellers and gemmologists, who will know how to advise you in every field: from cleaning your bijoux to the material to prefer for your needs. In short: ask, ask, ask!
3. Watch out when you wear them.
When you own precious jewels, it is also important to know how to wear them properly! No, I am not talking about matching and outfits (this time!), but about paying attention to housework, baths, contact with water and liquid substances such as detergents and disinfectants. It is better to put the jewels back in their box during housework or showering: you never know!
4. Keep lacquers and perfumes at a distance!
Lovers of pearls, be alert! Lacquers and perfumes, in contact with jewels and especially pearls, risk causing damage that is hard to fix. Always spray lacquers and perfumes before putting on your favourite jewels, to avoid ruining them.
5. Store with care
Also pay attention to how and where you store your jewels! Organise your collection inside a jewellery box, preferably properly divided into compartments. Alternatively, keep the little boxes in which the jewels were placed at the time of purchase: they are made especially to hold that very bijou! Particular care must be given to necklaces, which have the annoying flaw of tangling by themselves if stored the wrong way. Try to lay them out flat, or hang them. And if a knot forms? Always lay the necklace on a shelf and try to untangle the tangle gently and patiently!
These were my 5 tips on the most common mistakes to avoid when buying and caring for your jewels! And you, are you always careful not to make these mistakes?
