Rolex is the new Official Timekeeper of the US Open
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has announced that Rolex has become an official sponsor of the US Open and will serve as the official timekeeper and official watch of the event.
The multi-year agreement began with the kick off of the 2018 US Open held from August 27 to September 9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
The 2018 edition of the US Open coincides with the 50th anniversary of the event and is also the first to take place in the National Tennis Center, renovated for the occasion with a $600 million project. This will also be the inaugural season of the new Louis Armstrong Stadium, a 14,000-seat facility that is just the latest expansion of the entire complex.
During the event, Rolex watches will appear in every corner of the courts at the Billie Jean King Center.
The official clock positioned outside the Arthur Ashe Stadium will also be a Rolex display.
Rolex will also be present at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati as a sponsor of all the Masters Series events; it will also support the USTA National Campus for tennis-related activities and programs based in Orlando, Florida, as well as the initiatives of the USTA Foundation that assists underprivileged youth.
For 40 years, Rolex has sponsored various tennis events including the Australian Open, Wimbledon, the men's team tournaments Davis Cup and Laver Cup, the BNP Paribas Open, the Miami Open, the Rogers Cup, and others.
Rolex has taken the place of Citizen, which had been a sponsor of the US Open for more than twenty years.
Citizen, through a spokesperson, did not specify the reasons why the partnership ended. It noted that the brand “looks forward to focusing its efforts on the new collaboration with Disney and Marvel” and that, following its passion for tennis, it will remain the official timekeeper of selected tournaments on the US Open circuit, including the BB&T Atlanta Open, the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic, the Winston-Salem Open, and the Connecticut Open.
