Help comes from languages. In French, they speak of bijoux or bijoux de couture, in English of fashion jewelry and fine jewelry, while in our language of bijoux and jewelry.
Fashion and precious items
The preciousness, at least in other languages, lies entirely in the adjective. Fashion jewelry, often of lesser quality, is clearly distinguished from precious jewelry. In our language, bijoux and jewelry are therefore two different terms, even though they both represent, in the collective imagination, necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings. Bijoux is thus the fashion accessory, while jewelry is made with a precious metal, often with one or more gems.
Materials and value
Jewelry, therefore, can be made of silver, gold, platinum, palladium, and titanium and are crafted in goldsmithing. The gems most used by expert gemologists are diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds, but also aquamarines, amethysts, topazes, pearls, opals, and many more.
In bijoux, on the other hand, the materials used are often less precious, such as bronze, steel, aluminum, plexiglass, or other materials.
