Più rara del diamante: la tormalina Paraiba

Rarer than the diamond: the Paraiba tourmaline

Nature creates the most beautiful gems

This is one of the principles that Marco Bicego follows with great dedication in crafting his jewels. Among the gems most loved by the Italian brand stands out the tourmaline, especially prized in its enchanting Paraiba version.

A miracle of nature

Tourmaline is an extraordinary gem, able to appear in all the colors of the rainbow. Its shades are so unique and versatile that they make it perfect for use in jewellery, almost as if it were a magic of nature. In ancient times, this gem was considered a symbol of truth and cooperation, with positive effects on emotional life.

Depending on the color, tourmaline takes different names: the blue version is called indicolite, the green one is verdelite, while the red (from pink to crimson) is known as rubellite. The gem can also shade towards violet, making it a perfect representation of nature’s creative force. Unique jewels are often designed to highlight this wonderful colour variety.

The Paraiba Tourmaline: the most exclusive

Although tourmaline exists in a wide range of colors, Marco Bicego has a special fondness for the Paraiba tourmaline. This gem, rarer than the diamond, is found only in Brazil and Africa, and is particularly sought after. Its colour is an extraordinary blend between the blue of the Caribbean sea and the green of tropical jungles, a shade so bright that it shines even from afar.

The rarity and value of the Paraiba tourmaline are determined by the intensity of its colour. The liveliest and clearest shades are the most precious, making this gem one of the most exclusive in the world.

A model for the "Unico" collection

Marco Bicego has chosen the Paraiba tourmaline as the star of a pair of earrings in his special "Unico" collection. The gem is enhanced by a drop shape, which highlights the concept of imperfect perfection typical of nature. Each piece in the "Unico" collection is designed to reflect the uniqueness of nature: just as no two waves or petals are identical, so every jewel is a one-of-a-kind piece.
