Do it yourself
Despite worries and concerns, cleaning jewellery is very simple and can easily be done at home.
Just like with other metals, platinum is also easy to clean and refresh. The first step, however, is to find out if our valuables are really made with this metal so unique in its kind!
How to tell platinum jewellery apart?
Obviously, even in this case, relying on an expert eye would be ideal, but very often you can distinguish platinum from other metals with a little attention.
First of all, valuables usually bear an identifying mark. Platinum ones are no exception and, in fact, are often identified by the abbreviation Platino, Plat or Pt, followed by a number indicating the purity of the metal. The number 999 indicates pure platinum!
Beware of lookalikes! It is often easy to confuse platinum, silver, and white gold. However, platinum has a greater specific weight than its counterparts. A piece of jewellery in platinum will, in fact, weigh more than a jewel of the same shape and size made of white gold or silver.

How to clean a platinum jewel?
After these necessary preliminaries, let’s get to the point!
To clean a platinum jewel, it will be enough to use lukewarm water and a soft cloth, taking care to dry the jewels in the air or with a suede cloth.
If you do not have a specific jewellery cleaner, you can prepare a homemade solution based on soap and water. With a soft-bristled toothbrush, you can clean any jewel by gently rubbing it.
Attention! Avoid chlorine, chlorinated water, and harsh detergents like the plague! Water and neutral soap will be more than enough to clean our jewels.
